Getting Started...

This is the first of my many soon to be coming articles about Cardfight! Vanguard. I hope that it'll be of use to you!

So you wish to start standing up and cardfighting but don't know how? Confused by all the different types of cards, different clans and don't know which to choose? Don't worry! I'm here to help you!

What is cardfight vanguard? Cardfight!! Vanguard (カードファイト!! ヴァンガード Kādofaito!! Vangādo) is a japanese trading card game created by the japanese company, Bushiroad. It's fast paced, tensed and exciting gameplay ensures that both players are kept on their toes as the winner is not determined until the final damage is flipped and the game is over. It has an anime series currently showing on Okto(Singapore) as well as a manga series.

There are a few ways to get into this amazing game. One of the ways is to first get a trial deck. Doesn't really matter which trial deck you get, you can just use the one which you think the artwork is nicest( you may look at the art work for the cards in the cardfight wikia), but getting one of the latest ones, like td05 or td06 would allow to get a feel of the state of the current game. From there, find somewhere where there are cardfighters and try playing with them. If you can't find anyone, you can come down to sengkang community hub on sunday afternoons as we would most probably be gathered there to play.

Don't worry if you keep losing since you are just using a trial deck. The main purpose of this is so that you can try to get a feel of the game. Try playing against as many different decks as you can and talk to the players so that you would have a feel of how the different clans work. From here there are a few ways you can continue.

One way is that you can choose one of the expansions and buy a booster box, from there you can start trading or buying to get the cards you want to form the deck you want. Most likely you would already have the commons, so you would just have to trade or spend a little more to get the other cards. You do not have to go for the expensive cards, eg negates, boss cards etc, right now, just get the cheaper cards to form a workable deck, sort of an upgrade from the trial deck you were using. The nice thing about Cardfight! Vanguard is that you do not need a very expensive or strong deck in order to win. When you are more comfortable with the deck you are using, eg your playing style suits the style of the clan or deck, slowly tweak it up by getting the more expensive cards, this would allow you to not spend too much in one go and then regret getting them in the end when you do not like the play style of the clan.

Another way is that you can just decide on a clan that you want to play then just buy singles for that clan to form a deck. Do this preferably if you have a strong calling for a particular clan, eg artwork, play style or if you do not have a lot of time to go around and trade for cards that you want. Surf the internet for strategy articles and tips for the chosen clan and then choose the cards that you want and buy the singles. Buying one booster box in which the clan is strongly featured in the expansion, eg introduced, is recommended as you would be able to get the commons and rares that you may need to form the backbone of the deck, although not required.

Of course if you have friends who are already into this game, you can ask them to give you some cards to start off as well, from there you can then decide on how you wish to proceed.

One more way to reduce the financial burden is to share boxes with your friends, each of you will pick a clan from that expansion and everyone will take the cards of the clans that are chosen. It is a nice way to get more cards from a particular clan and to reduce the chance to get cards that you do not need.

Since cardfight! Vanguard is a trading card game, don't worry if you have cards that you cannot use, trade them or sell them to get cards that you can use! Trading with other players is also part of the fun! So get out there and start cardfighting! Very soon you may well be on your way to being a pro player playing in the world championships!
